2014 marks Marvels 75th Anniversary and to help celebrate this fans can catch an hour long prime time special on Tuesday 04th Niovember on Channel ABC.
'Marvel 75 Years: From Pulp To Pop!'........is a one hour special on Marvels full history from 1939 to present, with a peek into Marvels future. The show is hosted by Emily Van Camp, star of ABCs 'Revenge' and Marvels 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' and takes viewers on a journey though the decades with exclusive interviews with the people who experienced the times. November 1939..... Timely Comics publishes Marvel Comics #1 featuring the companies first superhero characters of Namor the Sub-Mariner, Human Torch (Original) Angel, Masked Raider and Ka-Zar the Great
June 1940.....Timely sets the template for future team Ups in Marvel Mystery Comics #8-9 as Human Torch and Namor clash in the first ever crossover between characters. December 1940..... Introduces Captain America, Red Skull and Bucky. The comic appeared a full year before Pearl Harbor and Americas entrance into WWII, however the first issue cover features Captain America punching Hitler on the jaw. |

July 1941..... Sidekicks Bucky (Captain America) and Toro (Human Torch) form their own group called Young Allies, which would soon receive its own self titled series.
January 1945.....Timely introduces 'Millie the Model' in an attempt to target a young female audience. May 1947.....Namora, cousin of the Sub-Mariner makes her first appearance. February 1950.....The end of the golden age as Timely moves away from Superhero stories at the main forefront with the ending of Captain America Comics, Marvel Mystery Comics and Sub-Mariner Comics. December 1950..... Timely attempts to introduce one last Superhero character called Marvel Boy, however the series only lasts 2 issues. |

November 1951.....Timely rebrands as Atlas Comics and explores alternative genres such as horror, romance, war and westerns.
December 1953.....Timely tries again with Human Torch, Captain America and Sub-Mariner but cancels again within two years. November 1961.....Mr Fantastic, The Invisible Girl, Human Torch and the Thing are the Superhero characters brought together to form The Fantastic Four, which helps Stan Lee & Jack Kirby bring Superheroes back to the newly christened Marvel Comics. This is a much needed return for the company and the industry in general. January 1962.....Henry Pym appears, soon to be Ant-Man a founding member of the Avengers. May 1962.....The Hulk appears, he only lasts six issues of his own series but quickly appears in other comics. |
August 1962.....Introducing two Superheroes, Spiderman & Thor. Spiderman appearance in the final issue of 'Amazing Fantasy' is an immediate hit and he receives his own comic title the following year. The Mighty Thor is drawn from Norse mythology into the growing Marvel Universe.
March 1963.....Iron Man is created
September 1963...Avengers assemble, the most popular creations are brought together in one group. these are Ant-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor and Wasp to form the Avengers. Hulk leaves the team an issue later opening up a slot for the revived Captain America.
September 1963....Also created in this month is a story about a race of humans with extra abilities. X-Men was initially based around Professor X and his teenage students Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Iceman & Marvel Girl and their battle against Magneto and others.
April 1964..... Iron Man encounters the Black Widow, originally a Soviet Spy she later becomes a member of the Avengers. Also in this same month sees the introduction of Matt Murdock as Daredevil, who originally appeared wearing a yellow costume for six issues prior to the well known red one.
July 1966.....The Black Panther is introduced in Fantastic Four comics. He is the first black superhero in mainstream comics.
September 1969.....Sees the introduction of the Falcon who proves popular and becomes co-headliner of the Captain America comic for several years.
May 1971....In co-operating with the US Dept. of Health, Education & Welfare Stan Lee writes a three issue story in Amazing Spider-man which explores the dangers of drug use. However the Comics Code Authority refuses to approve the issue and Marvel publishes them anyway without the CCA seal.
June 1971.....A nine part story starts in the Avengers with the Kree-Skull war showing Earths mightiest heroes battling Marvels aliens.
June 1972.....Introduces Luke Cage as the first African-American Superhero. He has indestructible skin and assists those in need for a small fee. He has his own series titled 'Hero for Hire'
August 1972.....Johnny Blaze sells his sul and becomes the demonic biker known as Ghost rider.
February 1974.....Introduces Frank Castle as the Punisher in Amazing Spider-Man #129
May 1974.....Iron Fist returns to America and teams up with Luke Cage, now called Power Man.
November 1974.....A two-part Incredible Hulk story sees the introduction of Wolverine.
February 1975.....Marvels franchise gets revitalised in 'Giant size X-Men' #1, which puts together a new X-Men team of Wolverine, Colossus, Storm & Nightcrawler to rescue the original team.
August 1975.....Writer Chris Claremont starts his 16 year tenure as writer of Uncanny X-Men, which becomes Marvels most consistent suceeful title of the next decade.
February 1977.....Sees the introduction of Spider Woman, originally conceived wholly to preserve the trademark of a female Spider-Man.
January 1980.....Uncanny X-Men writers Chris Claremont & John Byrne produce a nine-part story in which Jean Gre, a founding team member, gets seduced by Cosmic power and pays dearly for her crimes.
February 1980....She-Hulk emerges, cousin of the Hulk, and transformed by a Gamma-irradiated blood transfusion.
January 1981.....Sees the introduction of Daredevil & Elektra, a lethal Ninja and Matt Murdocks old flame.
April 1982.....Presents the death of Cosmic hero Mar-Vell as he succumbs to a form of cancer in Marvels first graphic novel.
June 1982.....Marvels first ever limited series has a three-part adventure where Grandmaster & Death pit opposing teams of heroes against each other.
May 1984.....12 part limited series called Secret Wars is debuted, featuring all the companies major heroes & villains battling each other at the whim of the mysterious Beyonder. there are also an accompanying line of action figures by Mattel.
August 1986.....Howard the Duck hits the big screen in the movie of the same name, produced by George Lucas it is the first Marvel character to be featured in a theatrical film since Captain America on the 1940's.
October 1986.....Crossover stories bewtween uncanny X-Men, New Mutants and X-Factor si a success and prompts annual crossovers between X-Men titles.
April 1988.....Venom is introduced in Secret Wars and proves popular enough to morph into an anti-hero in the 90's.
February 1991.....Sees the introduction in New Mutants #98 of a character who transitioned from villain into one of Marvels most popular characters, he is a wisecracking assassin, the Merc with the Mouth known as Deadpool.
